"Unity in Opposition: Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav Join Forces in Ghaziabad Ahead of UP Elections"

top-news

The joint address by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on April 17 marks a significant move in the political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections. This event is part of the collaboration between the Congress and SP, forming the opposition’s INDIA bloc. Ghaziabad, where the Congress is contesting, is among the key seats in Uttar Pradesh going to polls in the second phase on April 26.

The absence of joint campaigning by the two leaders in the first phase, which covers ten seats of Western Uttar Pradesh, underscores the strategic focus on impactful rallies closer to polling dates. AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s roadshow in Saharanpur further amplifies the opposition’s efforts, particularly in Western Uttar Pradesh.

The alliance between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav has historical roots, with their previous collaboration during Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in February this year. Their upcoming joint rally in Amroha on April 20 is anticipated to resonate with voters in the region. Amroha, represented by Congress leader Danish Ali, is slated for polling in the second phase.

The Congress-SP alliance’s candidate, Dolly Sharma, will contest against the BJP’s Atul Garg for the Ghaziabad seat. This constituency holds significance historically, having been represented by prominent figures like Union Minister General VK Singh and Union Minister Rajnath Singh in the past.

The INDIA bloc’s strategic seat-sharing deal allocates 17 seats to Congress and 63 to SP and other alliance parties out of Uttar Pradesh’s 80 parliamentary seats. With BJP’s stronghold in the state evident from past election results, the collaboration between Congress and SP aims to challenge this dominance and present a formidable opposition front.

The backdrop of their joint efforts, including past collaborations in assembly elections, indicates a focused attempt to mobilize voters and offer a united front against the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh.
